Fortunately, they didn’t go off.

“Two vintage bombs were recently unearthed inside the compound of the old Department of Tourism (DOT) building along T.M. Kalaw Street, Ermita, Manila,” reports Rachel Joyce E. Burce in Manila Bulletin.

According to Manila Police District Explosives and Ordnance Division (MPD-EOD), “Rodolfo Ortilla, detachment commander of Commander Security Agency assigned at National Museum, called regarding the discovery of the bombs.”

The report noted: “It turns out that a construction worker named Andi Amador discovered the bombs—one at the courtyard and the other one beside the power house of the old DOT building.”

Senior Police Officer 3 Modesto Pagaran from MPD-EOD revealed that “the two vintage bombs as 81-millimeter illuminating round bombs.” He said that while they were already corroded, they could still explode if not handled properly.
