Village chairman and his cousin gunned down in Batangas

A village chairman and his cousin were ambushed this morning by unidentified men in the town of Taysan in Batangas.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer identified the victims as Rolly Loredo, 39, the chairman of the village of Mataas na Lupa and his cousin, Reynan Garbin, 29. The crime occurred at around 8:30am according to Balita. 

Mataas na Lupa is located in the city of Lipa, also in Batangas province.

The two men were on board a Toyota Wigo traveling in the village of Mahadiong when a white vehicle overtook them. One of the persons on board shot at the victims, who were killed instantly in the scene of the crime, radio station DZMM reported.

Eyewitnesses said that the suspects fled in the direction of Rosario, a nearby town.

The police have yet to determine a motive behind the crime.
