At least 100 families were displaced by a three-hour fire that gobbled a shanty community in Malabon on Monday morning, according to the local fire department. Some 50 houses were set ablaze in Barangay Tinejeros, purportedly after a tank of liquefied petroleum gas exploded, reports Jamie Elona in Philippine Daily Inquirer. The fire spread quickly in the community because the houses were made of easily combustible material. The fire, which reached the fifth alarm, was put out by fire fighters at 12:42pm.
