Valenzuela City mulls ban on using mobile phones while driving

Valenzuela City is considering a ban on driving while using a mobile phone.

City councilors–and siblings–Rovin Andrew Feliciano and Cristina Marie Feliciano have filed an ordinance that will prohibit motorists from taking and making calls or sending and reading text messages while driving. Rovin Feliciano said the measure is meant to curb road accidents, which he said, have increasingly been caused by using mobile phones.

Hataw reports the ordinance proposes a penalty of PHP2,000 for using a mobile phone while driving. The fines collected will go to a trust fund for the Valenzuela City Science High School.
