Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian wants the Bureau of Fire Protection chief Ariel Barayuga to face charges for last May’s deadly Kentex factory fire.

This comes after the Justice department on Thursday left out the Bureau of Fire Protection chief when it recommended charges against Kentex manufacturing owners and several officials due to the blaze that left more than 70 dead.

Gatchalian asserts that the BFP failed to properly report safety violations in the factory after conducting two inspections.

“They admitted that last July 2014, then they inspected again on October. In the fire code, they violated certain provisions also. They should have given us copies of their report,” said Gatchalian.

He also insisted that the local government of Valenzuela did not violate any law. That said, he said that he’s ready to face the charges that will be filed against him in court. (ANC)
