Valenzuela City has the best jail in the country

So, just how great is this jail?

Well, it’s so great that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has tagged the Valenzuela City Jail as “The Best City Jail of the Year.”

“For starters, the six-storey jail facility is new, as it was inaugurated in June this. Plus, it’s not congested as it currently houses 625 inmates while it’s ideal capacity is 2,000 inmates,” reports Czarina Ong in Manila Bulletin.

The brand new jail, which is fully funded by the local government, has been certified by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), recognizing it for complying with the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.

The report noted: “The jail also has its own infirmary, health unit, kitchen, pantry, library, classroom, basketball court, and conference room.”

The report added: “The inmates are accorded certain luxuries such as a shared television and a small cooperative with canned goods, and snacks, but contrabands are prohibited.”
