At the end of yesterday, June 22, Vice President Leni Robredo announced that over 2,000 tricycle, pedicab, and motorcycle delivery riders had been vaccinated on the first day of the Vaccine Express program.

Running through today, Vaccine Express aims to encourage public-utility drivers to get their anti-coronavirus jabs. The program’s drive-through facilities allows working drivers to get their vaccines on the go, without having to take a day off work—a concern that has been identified as a reason for vaccine hesitancy.

Robredo also tweeted yesterday that drivers were offered P500 gas cards as an incentive.

Vice President Robredo’s tweets received extra attention yesterday, following as it did on the heels of President Rodrigo Duterte’s weekly broadcast, during which he threatened to have people who refused vaccines arrested. He also ranted about using “vaccines for pigs” and how he would personally administer them to people “in the a**”.
