Single government employees have been granted paid leave in a Quezon town so they can find their one, true, forever love.
General Luna Mayor Matt Florido announced online yesterday that the employees can go on vacation on Feb. 12.
“Devote the entire day to look for your forever [love] so that you have someone to be with on Feb. 14. This leave is with pay because I support you in what you are going through,” he said in English and Filipino.
But apparently, the mayor did not realize that Feb. 12 is already a public holiday, so in a postscript he said employees can go on vacation on Feb. 11 instead.
“Since it’s already a holiday on Feb. 12 because of Chinese New Year, you can just file your leave on Feb. 11. You have enough time to look for [your special someone],” he said.
General Luna is a town with about 27,000 residents. It’s a six-hour drive from the city of Manila.
Valentine’s Day is quite popular among Filipinos, many of whom are incurable romantics. However, this year will be different, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to upend the lives of the populace.
