So not cool to use a bomb threat just to get out of an exam.
A bomb threat sent through a text message forced school officials at the Bulacan State University in Malolos, Bulacan to suspend classes today, as announced on its Facebook page earlier today:
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that a school official received a text message at 7am saying: “This is the last time I am warning you! Goodbye Bulacan State University, Bustos and Malolos Campus, 3 bomb (sic) will explode today Goodluck!”
Bulacan police director Senior Superintendent Chito Bersaluna told GMA News that they aren’t ruling out the possibility of the threat as a means to push back exams.
“That’s one of the possibilities we’re looking into as it is exam week,” he said in Filipino.
Philstar also reported that the text message was sent by a student. “The name is under investigation,” Bersaluna said.
Bomb threats have hit universities all around the metro throughout the past weeks, this includes the Mapua Institute of Technology and the University of Santo Tomas among others. No explosives were found in the campuses.
Prank or not, a bomb threat is considered a serious offense under the Presidential Decree 1727. It declares as unlawful “the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction and imposing penalties therefor.”
Offenders may face imprisonment of not more than 5 years, and/or a fine of not more than PHP40,000 (US$739.55).
