Ship marshals set maritime security drill

The Office of Transportation Security, a unit of the Department of Transportation and Communications, will be holding security drills at Manila North Harbor on March 20.

According to the Philippine Information Agency, the drills are meant to make sure the Philippine maritime transportation conforms to standards set by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and the country’s own National Security Programme for Sea Transport and Maritime Infrastructure.

The drills will simulate terrorists boarding a ship, unattended and suspicious packages on a ship, and an explosion on board. The drills will involve the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the OTS-Maritime Transportation Security Bureau.
