PUP students join UP protests

Students from state-run Polytechnic University of the Philippines on Monday sympathized with fellow “Iskolars ng Bayan” from the University of the Philippines who held a day of mourning and protest over the death of UP Manila freshman Kristel Tejada.

According to GMA News, the PUP students held their own protest actions at the university’s campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila. They piled broken chairs and other equipment to protest high tuition rates.

The students likewise held a dialogue with PUP president Emmanuel de Guzman, who assured the students that PUP has not hiked tuition rates since 1980. De Guzman reiterated that tuition rates remain at P12 per unit.
