National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Director Leonardo Espiña led the the destruction on Friday of 112 “video karera (horse racing video game, basically)” machines confiscated across the metro.
He said the destruction of the machines shows the police’s continuing efforts to curb illegal gambling, which he said is a bad influence on Metro Manila’s youth.
He said that operators of the video karera machines may see the games as just harmless fun without seeing the effect the machines have on children. “It destroys the morality of our youth,” he said.
“And I warn all the operators and protectors of this kind of gambling: We will not tolerate you,” he also said.
Although betting on horse races is allowed in the Philippines, betting on virtual horses is not. Videoke machines, despite their potential for mayhem, are also allowed in the Philippines.
