Philippine National Police: Help us stop gun crime

By making a simple phone call to the Philippine National Police Hotline (0917-8475757), you can play an important role in fighting back against crime.

This was the message conveyed by the Philippine National Police (PNP), who appealed directly to the general public in hopes that the citizenry will play a larger role in reporting criminal acts.

The appeal came in the wake of several violent shootouts, including the Kawite, Cavite incident which resulted in 7 deaths. PNP Director of Police-Community Relations, Lina Sarmiento, emphasized this type of gun crime could be preempted if the public were more willing to call in suspicious activity related to drug trafficking, indiscriminate firing, and gang activity before it exploded into outright gun violence.

To address public concern, Director Sarmiento stressed the identity of callers would be kept secret in order to prevent reprisals against potential informants.
