Typhoon Nona intensifies, storm signals up in several areas

At 4am on Dec 14, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the eye of Typhoon ‪‎Nona (international name: Melor)‬ had been located 205 kilometers (km) east of Catarman, Northern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kilometers per hour (kph).

It was forecast to move west at 17 kph.

Typhoon Nona is expected to pass very close to Northern Samar by early Mon afternoon, then make landfall over Sorsogon in the evening.

Public storm warning signals (PSWS) are up in the following areas:

Isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao while light rain is expected over Cagayan Valley. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be experienced over the rest of Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon while from the northeast to north over eastern mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northwest to west with slight to moderate seas.
