Typhoon Lawin aftermath: Some Cagayan towns may not have power until December

Residents of some towns in Cagayan province might have to wait until Christmas before power supply can be fully restored.

According to Cagayan Electric Cooperative (CAGELCO) I General Manager Engr. Tito Lingan, it would take them at least two months to restore power supply in the 12 towns they are operating in.

“We targeted it for at least two months. Before Christmas, we hope to energize the whole coverage area with the help of our Task Force Kapatid,” he said.

Electric cooperatives from other regions have pledged to help in putting up new electric posts to fast track the restoration of electricity in the province.

“We have communicated with the National Electrification Administration for the Task Force Kapatid for our sister co-ops here in the Philippines to provide us assistance, to send crews and equipment here. Today, they are already moving in,” Lingan added.

A total of 1,188 electric posts were damaged during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Lawin, affecting more than 130,00 consumers in twelve towns in the province, including Tuguegarao City.

Power supply at the main line of Peñablanca, as well as the Tuguegarao-Solana line have been restored as of 8:19pm on Wed, Oct 26.
