Typhoon “Goring” (international name “Halola”) is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within 24 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said Friday morning.
In its 11am advisory, PAGASA said Goring was last spotted 1,160 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes.
It maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.
Speaking to radio dzMM, PAGASA weather forecaster Samuel Duran said Goring, moving west at 15 kph, has no direct effect on any part of the country.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau is monitoring another potential cyclone.
A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted 130 kilometers east northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao and Ilocos Norte and the islands of Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan are expected to experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, PAGASA said.
Isolated thunderstorms, meanwhile, will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. —with a report from dzMM
