Tycoon Danding Cojuangco undergoes kidney transplant

In case you didn’t know it, he’s President Noynoy Aquino’s uncle.

“Former San Miguel Corporation (SMC) head honcho Eduardo ‘Danding’ Cojuangco Jr. underwent a successful kidney transplant on Monday, Dec 9, at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City,” reports Jaime Pilapil in the Manila Times.

The report then quoted his daughter-in-law, Pangasinan Rep. Kimi Cojuangco, who tweeted, “I’m very happy. My father-in-law is now back in his hospital room after a successful kidney transplant.”

According to the report, Cojuangco, who is now 78 year old, is alleged to have bought “a 47% stake in San Miguel Corp., using coconut levy funds collected from farmers back in July 1983.”

The report then explained: “Part of his shares, however, were sequestered by the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), the very first agency created by the late president Corazon Aquino (Cojuangco’s cousin) tasked to run after ill-gotten wealth of the former dictator and his cronies.”
