Authorities in Davao City confiscated 72 kilos of tuna sold in three different marketplaces this Saturday.
Authorities received reports that the tuna fish were already rotten but pig’s blood was rubbed on them to make them look fresh.
During the operation, officials from the City Veterinary Office spotted a dipper filled with pig’s blood beside the display of tuna.
Dr. Clarita Tellano of the City Veterinary Office said what the sellers did was “deception” and that they could be charged for violating the Consumer’s Act.
The four men caught selling the tuna were invited by the authorities, but they were released while the complaint is being investigated.
Meanwhile, the Muslim community in the area is dismayed at what the sellers have allegedly done.
Masil Ahalum, the deputy mayor of the Tausug tribe, said what the sellers did is a disrespect to their religion.
The four may be fined for selling the tuna. (from a report by Ara Casas, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao)
