State weather bureau PAGASA said Tropical Storm Jolina will make landfall over Isabela-Aurora area tonight between 8 to 10pm and will cross northern Luzon.

In its 11 am weather bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the storm was estimated at 210 kilometers southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, at 10am.

“We will feel a lot of rain tonight, particularly in the east coast of central and northern Luzon and then by tomorrow, in the area of the western coast of northern Luzon,” said weather specialist Nikos Victor Peñaranda.

“Jolina” is packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kp/h near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kp/h.

Tropical cyclone warning signal #2 is raised in the following areas, where winds of 61 to 120 kp/h may be expected in the next 24 hours:
– Isabela
– Northern Aurora
– Quirino
– Kalinga
– Mountain Province
– Ifugao
– Ilocos Sur
– Benguet
– Abra
– La Union
– Nueva Vizcaya

PAGASA said the tropical storm may cause light to moderate damage to infrastructure and agriculture due to strong winds.

“Land travel is risky as well. The area is a mountain range and there are forested areas there, so our roads might get disrupted and we are expecting landslides as well,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone warning signal #1 is up in the following areas, where winds of 30 to 60 kph may be expected in the next 36 hours:

– Cagayan including Babuyan group of islands
– Apayao
– rest of Aurora
– Ilocos Norte
– Nueva Ecija
– Pangasinan
– Northern Quezon including Polillo island
– Catanduanes
– Camarines Norte
– Camarines Sur

“The riskiest area of the storm is around the eye. It means even if the center is not there, they will feel the strongest winds in that area,” Peñaranda said.

Jolina is expected to exit the Philippines by Saturday evening or early morning Sunday.
