Tropical storm ‘Amang’ grows stronger, threatens Samar provinces

Tropical storm Amang has intensified further and now threatens Samar provinces. Despite this, Pope Francis’ trip to the region today will push through.

In its 5am bulletin on Sat, Jan 17, state weather bureau PAGASA said that at 4am Amang was spotted 220 kilometers (km) east southeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. It has maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph. It is forecast to move west at 17 kph.
