Tropical depression Carina intensifies, several areas under Signal No. 1

Tropical depression Carina continued to intensify on Fri, Jul 29.

In its 11pm weather bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said “Carina” was last spotted 180 kilometers east southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar at 10pm.

It has maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.

It is forecast to move north-northwest at 9 kph.

Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar were placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 1.

The three areas, as well as the rest of Visayas, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate, may experience moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, PAGASA said.

“Carina” is expected to be 85 km east of Virac, Catanduanes by tomorrow evening, Sat, Jul 30.
