Honesty seems to be “contagious.”
Tricycle driver Gerardo ‘Aldo’ Bendicio Jr. had been waiting for his cousin at the parking area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 when he saw a wallet lying on the ground.
Upon closer inspection, Bendicio saw that the wallet contained several foreign currencies equivalent to more than PHP24,000. It also contained identification cards under the names of Kim Jae-seong and Kang Hyoung-huan.
“Bendicio then brought the wallet to Tuy, Batangas (his hometown) and sought the help of Supt. Gerson Bisayas of the Batangas Police Provincial Office at Camp Miguel Malvar. Bisayas then got in touch with Major Melchor delos Santos, head of NAIA’s Intelligence and Investigation Division’s Lost and Found section,” reports Raoul Esperas on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Bendicio, a father of two who earns PHP300 per day, said he didn’t want to pocket the money he found. “Kawawa naman po iyung dayuhan na may ari ng wallet (I feel bad for the foreigner who lost the wallet),” he said simply.
NAIA police are now coordinating with the Korean embassy for the return of the wallet to its owner.
