The nation’s toughest race, Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, is back on the shores of Cebu August 4. Over 2,000 participants from 35 countries will compete in a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike course, and a 13.1-mile run.
The event is now in its 5th year and the focus this year will be on the men’s race between three-time champion Pete Jacobs of Australia, Cameron Brown, Mathieu O’Halloran and two-time Ironman World Champion Chris “Macca” McCormack.
Defending women’s champion Caroline Steffen returns to defend her crown. Her strongest challenge will come from 2011 champion Belinda Granger, who is fresh from her triumph at the Century Tuna 5i50 Triathlon in Subic in June. Bree Wee from the United States, Christie Sym and Jacqui Slack of Great Britain are also expected to challenge.
Ironman 70.3 Philippines is a qualifier for the IronMan World Championships Las Vegas in Nevada on September 8.
The race will start and finish at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
