Triathlete Nikko Bryan Huelgas wins PH’s 2nd SEA Games gold in triathlon

Nikko Bryan Huelgas ruled the men’s triathlon event in the 28th Southeast Asian Games to give the Philippines its second gold medal for triathlon in Singapore on Sun morning, Jun 7.

Triathlete Claire Adorna had won the country’s first gold medal in this year’s SEA Games on Sat, Jun 6.

The 23-year-old Huelgas finished the competition with a time of 2:04:32, one minute and three seconds ahead of Malaysia’s Rikigoro Shinozuka.

Singapore’s Chuan Rong Loo bagged the bronze medal with a time of 2:07:01.

Another Filipino competitor, Jonard Saim, finished in sixth place with a time of 2:10:18.

Meanwhile, Mary Joy Tabal gave the Philippines another silver medal as she finished second in women’s marathon with a time of 3:04:39.

Thailand’s Natthaya Thanaronnawat won gold as she finished one minute and 14 seconds ahead of Tabal. Vietnam’s Thi Thanh Hoang was third with a time of 3:07:14.

The Philippines is currently seventh in the medal table with two golds, six silvers, and eight bronze medals.
