A high-rise building in Makati City became a real-life Tower of Terror this morning when its elevator plummeted several floors, hurting more than 10 people in the process.

As many as 14 people were hurt by the accident which occurred in the PBCom Building in Ayala Ave. at around 1am, reports state.

At least 28 passengers boarded the elevator from the building’s 52nd, which was working perfectly fine until the 47th floor when the lift suddenly started to fall uncontrollably, according to the Manila Bulletin.

The emergency brake eventually worked by the 38th floor and continued to descend at a slower pace but the ordeal did not end there. The door would not open by that time it reached the 12th floor and until it reached the ground floor, The Philippine Daily Inquirer wrote.

Most of those who were hurt reportedly sustained minor injuries while others puked, ABS-CBN News reported. They were brought to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police suspect that one of the elevator’s cables snapped, leading to the fall.
