Tornado rips through Manila

Sometime past 4:30pm on Sun, Aug 14, a tornado formed in Manila’s Port Area. The twister was brought about by the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” which has likewise brought heavy rains along with it.

Needless to day, the locals were a bit shocked by the tornado, as it’s not common in the Philippines.

The Philippine Star shared a video by Joemarie Bacos. The clip shows tornado “sweeping through the street with what seems to be the sound of wind and metal clanging from a distance.”

The Philippine Red Cros likewise shared Karen Daphne Madrigal’s timelapse video of the tornado, which she captured from her 39th floor apartment in Binondo District, Manila.

Philippine Red Cross chairman Sen. Richard Gordon also revealed, though, that power lines near their office were knocked down by the tornado. He also shared a video of the weather disturbance on his own Twitter page.

 

 

There were several reports property damage caused by the tornado. A GMA News Online report noted: “Old trees were uprooted and some roofs were ripped off homes.” However, nobody was hurt.
