Police Officer 1 Mark Sagun is now facing murder charges after he shot dead a fellow policeman, PO1 Louie Wang, during a party in Tondo, Manila, on Wed night, Sep 7.
Sagun is detailed at the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Police Holding Administrative Unit, while Wang, was assigned at the Manila Police District (MPD) anti-drug unit.
“Sagun, Wang, Cesar Lajom and two others were celebrating the anniversary of their fraternity, Magic 5, at a house on Hermosa Street when the suspect invited them to go to a house on Canal dela Reina Street. There, an argument broke out between Sagun and Wang, which led to the shooting,” reports Rey Galupo in The Philippine Star.
One of the witnesses said that Sagun and Wang had argued over illegal drugs. Sagun had allegedly wanted Wang to try shabu, but the latter refused.
The report noted: “After the shooting, Sagun rushed out of the house and commandeered a neighborhood resident’s motorcycle (ME-38733) at gunpoint.
The motorcycle owner shouted for help, attracting the attention of PO2 Anthony Quilantang and his companions, who were passing through the area. They eventually caught Sagun and found a sachet of shabu in his wallet. Ironically, the shabu sachet was tucked underneath his Philippine National Police (PNP) identification card.
Sagun is now being held at the MPD homicide section detention cell. He has also been charged with illegal drug possession and car theft.
Wang, who bore four gunshot wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center.
MPD Station 1 commander Superintendent Redentor Ulsano only had good things to say about Wang. “He was my (undercover) buyer. I lost one of my best men and it is actually the loss of the whole PNP organization,” he said.
