As expected, they won’t take it lying down.
“On Thu, Mar 10, United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) president and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco warned the Commission on Audit (COA) that it can be held liable for violating a 2015 resolution and its own rules after it released an incomplete report on Makati City Hall Building 2 as reported in media,” reports Peoples Journal.
Tiangco stated, “We have received information that a PR consultant working for the Office of the Ombudsman provided copies of the COA report to select reporters. To this we ask why, if the case against us is strong, would there be any need for underhanded tactics?”
He added, “This project has passed 11 regular audits. It is very clear that special audit team was created for the ‘special’ purpose of being used as demolition team against VP Binay.”
Atty. Claro Certeza, the lawyer of ousted Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, added, “If this is true, COA is clearly biased as it has no authority to determine who is guilty of a crime. Its mandate is merely to audit government expenditures and to determine if the same are allowable. Only the courts can decide whether a person is guilty of a crime.”
Certeza also disclosed that they have not received a copy of the COA report.
