In the recent 2016 elections, Risa Hontiveros won a seat in the Senate on her third try.
Turns out that she was already involved in political issues even as a student. The 50-year-old senator shared a throwback photo of her high school days on her Facebook account.
“Did you know Sen. Risa Hontiveros started her activism at a young age? She campaigned against the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant when she was still in high school at St. Scholastica’s College-Manila. #ThrowbackThursday,” said the photo caption.
The Bataan Nuclear Power plant was a controversial Marcos project in Bataan Peninsula. It was the country’s only attempt to construct a nuclear power plant. Though the structure was completed, it was never fueled.
Netizens were quick to notice Senator Risa’s beauty, which was already evident even during her earlier years.
Someone even compared her to ABS-CBN actress Liza Soberano.
Earlier this year, a video of Risa Hontiveros with Monique Wilson, Lea Salonga and Raymond Lauchengco staring in the 1980 production of “The Sound of Music” also went viral.
Running under the banner of the Liberal party, Risa Hontiveros lost in the 2010 national elections and the 2013 midterm elections.
She is an advocate of health. Her most recent project is a “health package for women and children”.
