Third explosion in Mindanao rocks South Cotabato vice mayor’s house

A third bombing incident rocked the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Sat (Sep 3) night, less than 24 hours after the Davao City blast that killed at least 14 people.

According to an ABS-CBN News report, an explosion happened at the residential compound of Vice Mayor Eliazar Jovero in Polomolok, South Cotabato at around 9:00 p.m.

No one was injured, but the explosion caused substantial damage to his house.

Nagpe-prepare kami na papasok sa kwarto… Tamang-tama nakatalikod na kami nung pumutok,” Jovero told ABS-CBN.

(We were preparing to go to the bedroom… Our backs were turned when it exploded.)

Jovero told the authorities that he doesn’t have enemies and he has not received any death threats.

Wala tayong kalaban na sabihing posible na gagawa sila dahil may problema. Nang-harass siguro, hindi ko maintindihan ang pakay nila,” he said.

(I do not have any enemies who would do such a thing. Maybe they just want to harass me. I have no idea on what they want from me.)

The compound’s security personnel, Antonio Piamonte, noted two men on a motorcycle who stopped near the vice mayor’s residence.

“Akala ko man mag-ihi lang yung isa. Tapos yung isa hindi man bumaba sa motor. ‘Yun na lang bigla lang may sumabog,” said Antonio Piamonte, the security guard on duty.

(I thought one of them was just going to pee [on the sidewalk], the other man remained in his motorcycle. Then suddenly, there was an explosion.)

The two unidentified men quickly left the scene after the explosion. Piamonte wasn’t able to get the motorcycle’s plate number.
