A 3D-printed Rizal monument—apparently the tallest 3D monument of the hero—will be unveiled on the grounds of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Plaza on Rizal Day, December 30.
The statue, which stands at 12.5 feet, will be revealed in commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 125th year of martyrdom since he was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1898. DOST secretary Fortunato dela Peña earlier said that the 3D statue will not be a replica of the current monument in Rizal Park, and will depict Rizal as a scientist.
The statue was reportedly designed by UP College of Arts professor Jose Manuel Sicat, and was 3D-printed at DOST Advanced Manufacturing Center of the Metals Industry Research and Development Center.
The science secretary said, “We are paying tribute to the many works of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, especially in the field of science. We believe that this project is a good inspiration to our youth of today to maximize their capabilities and capacity to learning. Like Dr. Rizal, there is no circumstance that could stop us from learning.”
