Thanks to Vhong Navarro, PNP changes blotter procedure

At least, Vhong Navarro can say that his suffering isn’t all for nothing. (But, seriously, it took a celebrity for the police to notice the lapses in the procedure?!)

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) will implement changes in the way it documents crime after admitting lapses in reporting the incident surrounding the mauling of Navarro,” reports ANC.

Citing a phone interview with DZMM, the report revealed that “PNP Public Information Chief Reuben Sindac explained that blotter reports will now be received only by police officers capable of investigating cases.”

“Blotters will no longer be maintained in staff offices of the PNP. Blotters should only be allowed in frontline police stations and units of the PNP involved in operational and investigative functions,” Sindac said.

Sindac went on to note that members of the Southern Police District (SPD) who handled Navarro’s blotter should have brought the case to the nearest precinct so it could have been processed effectively.

He added, “The public can still seek assistance from all offices of the PNP but it is the duty of every police personnel to refer cases to its respective units.”

Earlier this week, the SPD has temporarily relieved the five police officers who were on duty on the night that Cedric Lee’s group brought Navarro to one of its precincts.

Then again, this is not a guarantee that we’ll all have a better time at police stations. Our tip: Stay the hell away from situations that lead you to police stations.
