MANILA, Philippines – Talk ‘N Text dished San Miguel a heavy 113-93 beating on Wednesday night, jeopardizing the Beermen’s chances of making it into the playoffs of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Texters led by as much as 29 points. They improved to 7-3 and clinched a share of the lead with Purefoods in the PBA standings.
Reinforcement Ivan Johnson paced Talk ‘N Text with 41 points to go with his 19 rebounds. Matt Ganuelas-Rosser provided the Texters added offensive boost with his 22 points.
The Beermen were trailing the Texters by 8 points going to the second half, 48-56.
But the 8-point gap became a huge 21-point hole when Johnson and Ganuelas instigated a searing 21-8 run midway the third quarter.
Making matters worse for San Miguel was Arwind Santos’ sudden departure from the game after his mother was rushed to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing.
Without Santos, Talk ‘N Text stepped up its offense and jacked the lead to 29 points, 102-73.
The Beermen, who were hoping to make the cut for the playoffs, managed to trim the deficit through Jay-R Reyes’ jumper.
Arizona Reid topscored San Miguel with 32 points, while June Mar Fajardo had 20.
The Beermen dropped to 3-7, just a win above Blackwater Elite, which is languishing at the bottom with 2-7.
San Miguel’s last assignment is GlobalPort on March 24.
