A 15-year-old student has been declared brain dead by doctors after he was shot inside his classroom in Calamba, Laguna today.

Police identified the victim as Mark Anthony Miranda, a Grade 7 student and a native of Pansol, another town in Laguna, reported GMA News.

Miranda attends a school located in the village of Masili in Calamba. He was inside one of his school’s classrooms when the suspect, who was identified as Renan E. Valderama, arrived at around 12:30pm and allegedly shot him twice, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Valderama, whom witnesses described to be around 30 to 40 years old, immediately fled the crime scene.

Miranda sustained gunshot wounds in the head and the body. He was brought to HealthServ, a hospital in the neighboring town of Los Baños, where he was declared brain dead by the doctor, reported ABS-CBN News.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacinto Malinao Jr., chief of the Calamba Police Station, said that the victim and the suspect knew each other. He said the police are investigating the possibility that Valderrama and Miranda had a relationship.

Valderama remains at large and the police are pursuing him.
