A grade 10 student from Liloan town in Cebu was arrested on Wednesday over an incident more than a year ago in which she is accused of accidentally fatally stabbing a male friend who was trying to stop her from hurting a bully.

The incident occurred on Feb. 12, 2019, when the 17-year-old suspect confronted her best friend, whom she accused of bullying her in a Facebook post, The Freeman reports. The two girls had a heated argument and the victim, who was also the suspect’s friend, appeared and tried to break up the commotion.

Instead of being placated, the suspect took out a knife and allegedly tried to stab the other girl, but missed her target and stabbed the male friend instead, Cebu Daily News reports. She was arrested and detained for three days, but was later released by the authorities because she was 16 years old when she committed the crime. However, she was arrested again yesterday after a warrant was issued against her in January by the Regional Trial Court of Mandaue City.

The suspect, who is supposed to graduate from junior high school this year, said she was surprised that she was arrested for the crime because she had already apologized to the victim’s family. She was arrested after someone told police that she was living in the village of Tabla.

“I already apologized, I didn’t do that on purpose,” she said.

She’s now facing a charge of homicide and is trying to raise money for bail, GMA News reports.
