Comes now another legal headache for Janet Lim Napoles. The Bureau of Internal Revenue has slapped a P61-millon tax evasion case against the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind and her husband Jimmy. BIR commissioner Kim Jacinto Henares said Napoles owes the government P44.68 million, while her husband owed P16.43 million. Henares explains that it was “common sense” that Napoles would be included in the agency’s Top 500 Taxpayers if she ran the foundation that received public funds, if she paid the right taxes. Upon checking their list, the BIR chief said Napoles wasn’t in it. The bureau is likewise looking into the pieces of property owned by Napoles to verify whether she paid the right amount to taxes to purchase these. MM
