Tax filing fiesta: BIR serves lechon and ice cream to Eastern Visayas taxpayers

In Eastern Visayas, tax filing season isn’t so bad.

If Metro Manila’s Bureau of Internal Revenue offices turn into little shops of horror every April 15, this, as TV Patrol reports, is definitely not the case in Eastern Visayas.

The BIR offices in the region take on a fiesta atmosphere during tax season. They serve food and drinks to taxpayers. They also provide entertainment with song and dance numbers.

Diosdado Mendoza, BIR Regional Director for Region 8, said, “We came up with this concept to our taxpayers can come and celebrate with us.” Mendoza said it is their way of thanking law-abiding citizens for paying their taxes.

Indeed, the taxpayers who were interviewed said the process was easy.

On the last day of tax season, Apr 15, the BIR Eastern Visayas office even serves lechon and ice cream to everyone.
