Filipinos love basketball and booze. So it only makes sense for the Philippines’ Tanduay Rum, the world’s 2nd top-selling rum, to partner up with the Oakland-based NBA defending champion the Golden State Warriors (GSW).

The sponsorship deal was signed last week and Tanduay made the announcement on its US Facebook page last Wednesday.

“Tanduay is proud, and as basketball fans, thrilled to be associated with the Golden State Warriors,” the president of Tanduay Rum Lucio Tan, Jr. was quoted in the Facebook post.

The deal makes Tanduay an official partner of the GSW and will bring a “Tanduay Rum Club” and Tanduay cocktails to the team’s home court, the Oracle Arena.

The rum brand will also sponsor Dub Nations’ upcoming Filipino Heritage Night on Oct. 29.

In an interview with Balitang America, the team’s Chief Marketing Officer Chip Bowers said that 44 percent of the Warriors’ Facebook followers are from the Philippines. “Of our 12 million Facebook followers, 44 percent of them are from the Philippines, so we love to be associated with the best of brand companies,” he said.

This is not the first time Tanduay partnered up with an NBA team. In March, they started a sponsorship deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
