Tanauan City mayor gets Duterte’s support for ‘Walk of Shame’ practice

This is the way it’s going to be.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has called out Tanauan City mayor Anthony Halili for violating the rights of several suspected drug pushers when he made them do the “walk of shame” with signs stating their supposed crimes. However, Halili’s controversial practice is getting the nod from incoming President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Duterte, a lawyer, said he is aware that suspects should not be punished without due course. He said that he had never humiliated his constituents in public during his 22 years as mayor of Davao City. However, Duterte said he will not interfere with how Halili handles his turf,” reports Jamaine Punzalan on ABS-CBNnews.com.

Duterte said that he would offer legal advice and assign a lawyer to Halili should he need it.

He stated, “Kung ginawa niya, okay lang (If he did it, it’s okay) and I will support him. I’ll give him legal advice, a lawyer. Kasi ako, galit din talaga ako sa droga — baka hindi na kita i-parade, i-diretso na lang kita (I really hate those involved in the illegal drug trade — if it were me, I wouldn’t just parade you, I’d just do away with you).”
