Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said the city will hold on to Fort Bonifacio despite a ruling by the Court of Appeals that it is within the jurisdiction of Makati City.
“Let’s make it very clear that the decision is not yet final and executory. Taguig will continue to exercise its jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio,” she said in a press conference on Wednesday. She said residents and establishments in Fort Bonifacio, Cembo, South Cembo, East Rembo, West Rembo, Comembo, Pembo, Pitogo should still transact business with the city government.
She also warned Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay against being too hasty since the decision can still be appealed and overturned, Radio DZMM reported.
Binay, for his part, said he is looking forward to a hassle-free transition for Fort Bonifacio. “We would like to allay their fears, we will sit down with them. We will discuss with them the smooth transition from Taguig to Makati. Nothing drastic will happen in this area,” he said in a GMA News Online report.
Pateros, the lone municipality of Metro Manila, has also staked a claim over Fort Bonifacio.
