Taguig mayoral candidate Rica Tinga was absent at a peacekeeping dialogue called by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting to ensure peaceful elections in Taguig City.
According to a Journal report, Tinga, whose supporters clashed with Taguig City Hall employees last Saturday, has been absent from the dialogue twice.
Her opponent, incumbent mayor Lani Cayetano, was present at the dialogue, which had the support of the Commission on Elections, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and Taguig police.
Twelve Tinga supporters were injured in an incident with city hall employees last Saturday. Cayetano has said Tinga’s supporters, including model Ervic Vijandre who is running for councilor, had no business being at city hall on a Saturday. Tinga’s camp said they were attacked by Cayetano’s people.
“We are hoping (a similar incident) won’t happen in the coming days and on election day itself,” Cayetano said in Filipino in the report.
