Tagalog commonly spoken in California, Nevada and Hawaii

Excuse me, do you speak Tagalog?

If you’re in California, Nevada or Hawaii, chances are high that you’ll get a yes.

This map of most commonly spoken language in American states other than English or Spanish is by Ben Blatt of Slate.com. He used data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

This finding does not surprise us. Filipinos are now the second largest Asian group in the United Sates. In a 2012 census report, the number of Americans who have identified themselves as Filipino, either alone or in combination with another race, totaled 3.4 million, reports Nimfa U. Rueda in Philippine Daily Inquirer
