Swan Song Series 3: La Bayadere

Nov 14-17. It’s been a busy three years for prima ballerina Lisa Macuja Elizalde. Since 2011 she has been performing full versions of her favorite classics before she says goodbye to ballet. In the last leg of her three-year retirement plan, she performs La Bayadere, a story about a temple dancer named Nikiya who is committed to a lifetime of service in the temple of the High Brahmin who desires her. She falls in love with the warrior Solor and he with her, but he has been pledged to marry Gamzatti, daughter of the Majarajah. In the end, Nikiya and Solor are bound to each other in their vow of eternal love. La Bayadere is set to the music of Ludwig Minkus, with original choreography by Marius Petipa and V. Chabukiani and restaging by Osias Barroso Jr. and Eileen Lopez. Lisa performs with Mikhail Martynyuk of the Kremlin Ballet (Nov 14 & 16) and Ballet Manila principal dancer Rudy De Dios (Nov 15 & 17). 7.30pm.
