Apparently hidden inside one of Manila’s poshest gated communities is a shady meth lab.

Authorities raided today a house in North Greenhills, San Juan where they found ingredients and equipment used to make shabu (meth), Radyo Inquirer reported.

According to ABS-CBN News, authorities went there after neighbors noticed a chemical-like smell coming from the house.

Police declined to identify the suspect who is still at large but said that a man was renting the house and had paid for eight months worth of rent.

Located inside a gated community where many rich families live, the house measures 600sqm with a rent that costs PHP120,000 (US$2,274.79) per month.

“This is an abandoned clandestine laboratory. We seized, there were so many equipment, apparatus, and ingredients,” National Capital Region Police Office Director Guillermo Eleazar told Sunstar in Filipino and English.

He said the raid is related to the Nov. 28 arrests of a certain Marvin Yu and a Korean national identified as Kim Jong Hee, who is believed to be a chemist.

According to ABS-CBN News, police think that the suspect who was renting the house is linked to a bigtime foreign syndicate.
