A suspected criminal tried — unsuccessfully — to evade arrest in Antipolo City on Monday by disguising himself with a curly-haired wig.
The suspect is Bryan de Paz, a resident of Sitio Broadway in the village of De la Paz, an officer from the Antipolo Police Station told Coconuts Manila.
De Paz was arrested for allegedly violating Republic Act 10591, or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act” and for allegedly selling illegal drugs.
The police nabbed him at around 12 noon after failing to catch him through a buy-bust operation.
Antipolo police chief Lt. Col. Alvin Ruby Consolacion said that when they arrived at De Paz’s house to serve an arrest warrant, they saw him wearing the thick wig, reported ABS-CBN News.
“He wore that wig so that he won’t be recogized. He ran away and went up to the roof [of his house],” said Consolacion in Filipino.
The suspect denied that he wore the wig so he could evade arrest.
“I use it when I go out. I just wanted to wear it,” he said.
Unsurprisingly, the disguise failed and the police caught up with De Paz. The police seized 19 sachets containing suspected shabu (meth) from the suspect. The suspected drugs weighed around 30 grams and have an estimated value of PHP204,000 (US$3,900). The police also confiscated a revolver and several ammunitions from De Paz.
De Paz is currently detained at the Antipolo Police Station, reported Radio Inquirer.
