One of the suspects behind the 2018 ambush of five members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has been arrested in Antipolo City yesterday.
Brigadier General Edward Carranza, chief of the Calabarzon police, announced in a press conference today that suspect Jamel Borar was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in the village of De la Paz at around 6:30pm last night, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer.
He was arrested along with a companion named Princess Lumpa who is allegedly a drug dealer. The authorities seized PHP375,000 (US$7,326) worth of shabu (methamphetamine) from the duo, reported Abante TNT.

Authorities believe that Borar is a brigade commander for the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), reported ABS-CBN News. Borar, along with seven others, was charged with multiple murder and double frustrated murder for his participation in the ambush of five PDEA agents in October 2018 in Kapai, Lanao del Sur. The attack killed the five PDEA agents and left two others wounded.
According to the police, Borar and his associates attacked the victims’ vans while they were traveling en route to Marawi City. The police believe that Borar and his co-accused staged the attack to avenge the death of a certain Comayug Macapagal, a suspected drug lord who was killed by PDEA agents during a buy-bust operation in August 2018.
A manhunt operation is still in place to find and arrest the other suspects.
