The Filipino accent gets a bad rap, especially among Filipinos, but it turns out that many actually find it sexy. The sexiest one in Asia, in fact.

At least that’s according to a ranking released by travel website Big 7 on Monday, which ranks Filipino the 21st sexiest accent in the world out of 50. This is based on a survey they conducted among their readers, which it says is at around 1.5 million people.

The results don’t include a breakdown of votes but it did describe the Filipino accent as “gentle and soft” and “simply lovely.”

Number one on the list is the “outrageously charming” Kiwi accent from New Zealand. Also in the top 10 are South African, Irish, Italian, Australian, Scottish, French, Spanish, South USA, and Brazilian Portuguese. At the bottom of the list is Croatian.

This is hardly a scientific study but a welcome nod, especially because the Filipino accent gets so much shade, mostly from Filipinos.

The phrase “you’re road” went viral in April last year after netizens made fun of a Filipino woman from the reality show 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days said it when she meant to say “you’re rude.” A journalist was also under fire in September last year when she made fun of Duterte’s Visayan accent.

On the lighter side of things, it was also the subject of the viral Dexter’s Laboratory meme that has the cartoon character saying words like “French fries” in a Filipino accent. It’s “prench pries,” FYI.

Of course, people are forgetting that there is no one accent in the Philippines. While the typical Filipino accent is characterized by the switching of the letters “f” and “p” and “v” and “b,” people speak differently depending on where they’re from.

They can sound like Duterte or boxer-senator Manny Pacquiao, who people say have thicker accents, but also like Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach who has a more neutral tone.

Whatever it is, speak loud and proud, Pinoys!
