Survey: Pinoys say government is ‘least trusted’ institution

Are we supposed to be surprised by these results?

“According to a survey conducted by public relations firm Eon, the government has become the least trusted institution in the Philippines, even as the Church remains the most trusted,” reports Darwin G. Amojelar on InterAksyon. com.

In Eon’s 3rd Philippine Trust Index poll, the government’s trust rating dropped 4 percentage points to 11 percent among the general public from the last time the survey was done in 2012, when business was the least trusted sector.

Among the informed public, the government’s trust rating was halved to 7 percent from 14 percent in 2012 when non-government organizations (NGOs) were the least trusted.

The report noted: “Eon defines the ‘informed public’ as Filipinos aged 25 years and above, having reached at least third-year college and accesses print, online and broadcast media at least thrice a week.” Meanwhile, the term, “general public,” refers to Filipinos who are at least 18 years old and consumer media less than three times a week.

The survey, which had 1,200 respondents, was conducted between May and June this year. The informed public sample was drawn from economic classes A to C, whereas the general public came from across classes A to E.
