“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is accepting applications from students and out of school youth aspiring to gain a learning experience in government service during the summer break,” reports Anna Liza Vilas-Alavaren in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said 450 slots are open under the Special Program for Education of Students (SPES) which intends to provide financial assistance to less fortunate but deserving students.”

The students who are admitted to the program shall be paid PHP466 daily.

As the report indicated, the MMDA will shoulder 60% of the students’ salary while the remaining 40 percent shall be paid out by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which administers the program.

Applications should be submitted together with the requirements not later than April 10. The month-long summer job placement will begin on April 13. (Check the MMDA website for instructions.)

Those who will be hired will be assigned in various departments: flood control, traffic engineering center, road emergency group, Metro Manila Film Festival, among others.
