Students from universities in the City of Manila will hold a “Day of Protest” against the P10-billion Pork Barrel Scam, Abante reports.
The report quotes Kabataan party-list Representative Terry Ridon as saying the protests will be held today, Friday. Students from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Manila campuses, the Polytechnic University of Manila, Universidad de Manila, De La Salle University, Philippine Women’s University, and Adamson University are expected to join the protests.
“It’s time to take action. We are disgusted and outraged over the Aquino administration’s defense of porky lump sum funds. This shows that the tuwid na daan is a path to further corruption,” Kabataan party-list said in the report.
Arrest warrants have been issued against Janet Lim Napoles, said to be the mastermind behind the scam that funneled development funds into ghost projects, and her brother Reynald “Jojo” Lim. The warrants are not for their alleged participation in the scam but for the serious illegal detention of a whistleblower in the case.
